Acrylic Pouring and Texture Workshop with Christine Raj

About Workshops in general:
Start at 9.30-12.30pm 1st & 3rd Wed. each month in Studio
2, Gosford Arts Centre. Cost: $25.00 per week includes
guest tutor and morning tea. Visitors are welcome.

Hi everybody – it’s time to dive into beautiful textured backgrounds again, using everything and anything at your disposal. I use everything from a potato masher for mark making, to bits of string, leaves and bark, fabric, plaster bandage and gyprock mixture. And I love to see my groups experiencing the joy of experimenting and playing around with different materials and textures….the results of these experiments can be translated into beautiful artworks.

So start getting your little treasure trove together, including texture paste, glue, tissue paper, pictures to rip up, seed pods, leaves, sticks & straw etc. You will also need some medium to seal your textured surface, and your normal acrylic paints, brushes and palette knife…..and of course, a couple of canvasses, or gessoed boards.

For acrylic pouring technique, you will need some plastic cups & sticks for stirring, a water container, and if desired, some “Poly Easy Flow” or “Floetrol”, which is an acrylic paint additive which you can buy at Bunnings. It extends your acrylic paint without diluting the pigment, as water does. It also produces beautiful “cells” in your poured acrylic. Include either a sheet of plastic or newspaper to catch drips. I’m looking forward to seeing you all again, and sharing the joy of textured painting with you.

Christine is a local artist living on the Central Coast. Born in Wagga Wagga on the Riverina, she also lived for many years in the Blue Mountains and on the Gold Coast of Queensland, absorbing the beauty of our Country’s different landscapes and climates. The rich, visceral colourful nature of our landscapes, flora and fauna have had an effect on her artwork, whether textural acrylics, or ink and multimedia, on a myriad of different surfaces.

CCAS Winter Exhibition 2017 Report

Art Events, Art Exhibitions, Central Coast, Community Art News, Exhibitions

Once again members have excelled in presenting a very admirable collection of works for our Winter exhibition, maintaining the high standard for which we have become known.  In all we had 86 paintings submitted by 48 members, plus Cards, Jewellery and Pottery.

We were delighted that Scott Levi, ABC Central Coast accepted our invitation to be Guest Speaker and open the Exhibition. Scott was most impressed with your work and kindly promoted the Exhibition during his morning radio programme. A small token of our appreciation was presented to Scott by President Judith Hoste.

The opening evening of the exhibition was deliciously catered for by many of our members, complimented by two rather ritzy barmen Laurie Williams and Ken Hoste looking after drinks, including Coleen Martin’s well sought Punch!  Thank you one and all!

The raffle proved to be an immense success with two prizes.  First Prize was a watercolour ‘Pelicans at Terrigal’ donated by Merreice Strange, whose painting of ‘Terrigal Haven’ appeared on our invitations. For the first time, we had a second prize, the pair of earrings donated by one of our members Celeste Boonaerts, owner of AngelRock Jewellery.  Thank you both so much.

Behind the scenes a lot of time and effort is put in to ensure Exhibitions run smoothly, as such I would like to thank our President Judith Hoste; Coleen Martin and Cat Soper who attended to Publicity. Our webmaster Belinda Lindhardt for set-up the on-line entry system – to those members who entered and paid online – Well done and thank you, this was most helpful. Belinda also designed the poster displayed at East Gosford.

Delivery day can be chaotic, but not so with Mary Ellison and the team checking in paintings and labelling. George and Marlene Palagyi, Susie Linigen and Richard Sakurovs assisted in hanging the exhibition – you guys were wonderfully tolerant! Thank you all.

Congratulations to those who sold paintings: – Beryl Crofts, Marlene Palagyi, Earl Hingston, Fran Melrose (2), Christine Lubanski, and Louise Andersen.  As usual pottery submitted by Jenny Brasch proved to be in high demand, almost a sell out! Jewellery and cards also proved popular.

Throughout the week extremely favourable comments flowed from our visitors and many recorded in the Visitors Book, and I would like to reiterate Judith’s congratulations and thanks to every individual who entered or assisted.

Unfortunately, two of our long-term members were unable to attend due to ill health. Merreice Strange and Fran Melrose we missed you both at the Opening, however, thank you for your contribution. We send best wishes to you both a full and speedy recovery.

Fran Mackey, Vice President & Exhibition Co-ordinator

WORKSHOP – 1 & 15TH March, Marijke Greenway

Art Events, Workshops

Still Life – Acrylics / Watercolour

Seeing you all enjoyed painting a still life last year, we will repeat the process this year. I will bring the flowers and set up a few still life arrangements with fruit, flowers & bottles. I will work step by step so that it is easy to follow. Please bring two canvasses or two pieces of paper on boards; artist quality Acrylic or Watercolors. Don’t bring cheap $2.00 paints.

The colors I use most often are as follows
Titanium White Red Gold Arylamide Yellow Brown Madder Alizarin
Paynes Grey Green Black Pacific Blue Yellow Ochre
The above are all Atelier colours. However, Matisse is fine as well, Red Gold is Australian Sienna with them.

Watercolours Your usual colours and materials. I will bring stay-wet palettes for everyone to use.
Then all the usual: water bucket, paper towels, brushes, palette of reasonable size. Aprons. Acrylic brushes should have spring in them, flat synthetics are best, also a rigger brush for drawing.
In both mediums, I draw up the composition in diluted paint, not charcoal or pencil. I work upright in both mediums, so if you have an easel, table or standing, then bring it along. I will bring a few paintings in both mediums of similar subject matter.’
