CCAS Winter Exhibition 2017 Report

Art Events, Art Exhibitions, Central Coast, Community Art News, Exhibitions

Once again members have excelled in presenting a very admirable collection of works for our Winter exhibition, maintaining the high standard for which we have become known.  In all we had 86 paintings submitted by 48 members, plus Cards, Jewellery and Pottery.

We were delighted that Scott Levi, ABC Central Coast accepted our invitation to be Guest Speaker and open the Exhibition. Scott was most impressed with your work and kindly promoted the Exhibition during his morning radio programme. A small token of our appreciation was presented to Scott by President Judith Hoste.

The opening evening of the exhibition was deliciously catered for by many of our members, complimented by two rather ritzy barmen Laurie Williams and Ken Hoste looking after drinks, including Coleen Martin’s well sought Punch!  Thank you one and all!

The raffle proved to be an immense success with two prizes.  First Prize was a watercolour ‘Pelicans at Terrigal’ donated by Merreice Strange, whose painting of ‘Terrigal Haven’ appeared on our invitations. For the first time, we had a second prize, the pair of earrings donated by one of our members Celeste Boonaerts, owner of AngelRock Jewellery.  Thank you both so much.

Behind the scenes a lot of time and effort is put in to ensure Exhibitions run smoothly, as such I would like to thank our President Judith Hoste; Coleen Martin and Cat Soper who attended to Publicity. Our webmaster Belinda Lindhardt for set-up the on-line entry system – to those members who entered and paid online – Well done and thank you, this was most helpful. Belinda also designed the poster displayed at East Gosford.

Delivery day can be chaotic, but not so with Mary Ellison and the team checking in paintings and labelling. George and Marlene Palagyi, Susie Linigen and Richard Sakurovs assisted in hanging the exhibition – you guys were wonderfully tolerant! Thank you all.

Congratulations to those who sold paintings: – Beryl Crofts, Marlene Palagyi, Earl Hingston, Fran Melrose (2), Christine Lubanski, and Louise Andersen.  As usual pottery submitted by Jenny Brasch proved to be in high demand, almost a sell out! Jewellery and cards also proved popular.

Throughout the week extremely favourable comments flowed from our visitors and many recorded in the Visitors Book, and I would like to reiterate Judith’s congratulations and thanks to every individual who entered or assisted.

Unfortunately, two of our long-term members were unable to attend due to ill health. Merreice Strange and Fran Melrose we missed you both at the Opening, however, thank you for your contribution. We send best wishes to you both a full and speedy recovery.

Fran Mackey, Vice President & Exhibition Co-ordinator

CENTRAL COAST REGIONAL SHOW 2017 – 23rd Margaret Smith Memorial Art Prize

Diversity of topics, variety of mediums and techniques made this a very interesting Exhibition for the recorded 1156 visitors. That, in addition to the high standard of work and presentation, was very much appreciated and reflected in the comments from visitors and judges alike. This year our judges were highly accomplished artists Gwynneth Boyce and Francisco Pacheco, whom we thank very much for their involvement and enthusiasm.

Across the five categories we displayed 80 works, which included 16 in the Open Section; 24 in Oils/Acrylics; 28 in Work on Paper, and six each in Photography and the Young People’s section. Congratulations to all prize winners as follows:

Well done to the following entrants who sold their works: Paul Blackbee, Harrison Blake and Sophie Eliopoulou and myself!

The collective goodwill, co-operation and expediency evident during the setting up and dis-assembly of the Exhibition should make each of us very proud of our Society. Exhibitions like this just don’t happen, and I take this opportunity to thank the wonderful team of CCAS members who volunteered their time and assisted in so many ways.

Thank you again, and congratulations one and all,

Fran Mackey,

Winter Exhibition 2016

Winter Exhibition 2016- Presidents Report

Art Events, Art Exhibitions, Community Art News, Exhibitions

Thank you everyone for working so hard on the Winter Exhibition, especially the men. The hanging was a bit tight, but finally every piece of work found its place.

The Opening Night was fantastic with Stephen Clarke, the Town Crier, making it a night to remember. The change of area for the food worked very well, so we will keep that set-up for future exhibitions. We presented a very inviting supper, thanks everyone for your contribution; many thanks to Marian Semmens, who in Marlene’s absence, did a great job on the night, having taken on the role of Social Catering

In the middle of the Winter Exhibition we took on an extra commitment by participating in the ‘Ageing Life 2016 Central Coast Baby Boomers & Seniors Expo at Mingara. Thanks to all who helped one way or the other with setting up and manning this 1 day ‘Mini’ Art Exhibition. We were looking at promoting CCAS, however, everyone concerned thought it wasn’t worth being involved, so we won’t participate if asked again.

A visit to Earl Hingston’s Gallery and Toukley Art Society’s Gallery, replacing our General Meeting, was very interesting with everyone enjoying the experience.

Earl’s Gallery is unique as it is in the rooms of a practising law firm and may be visited by the public during business hours. Our sincere thanks to Earl, and his wife Helen, for their hospitality and guided tour.

On arrival at TDAS we were warmly welcomed by President Anne Sonter and members. Having guided us around their Gallery, we were provided with a very much appreciated afternoon tea.  How fortunate they are to have their own Gallery with a continuous display of works for sale.   Thank you, Ladies.
