Earl Hingston
Began his career in advertising and corporate communication in New Zealand. In the mid 1960s Earl gained further experience in studios in Sydney before returning to NZ to open Wellington’s first graphic design consultancy. The largest commission was the designing of the symbol and related corporate elements for the New Zealand Post Office. Examples of his work appeared in magazines as well as a book featuring 18 designer/artists showing selected NZ work from the period 1940s to the 1970s. He was elected a Fellow of the prestigious Chartered Society of Designers, London. Earl returned to Sydney in 1978 working as a creative director and director of an advertising and communication agency. Since retiring he works in his favoured, challenging medium of watercolours a well as other media. Earl’s approach is not to copy a subject but to paint a recognisable impression of it with confident, lively calligraphic brush marks … to him vitality is more important than total accuracy. He conducts workshops and has written articles for “Australian Artist”. Earl is a Fellow of the Australian Society of Marine Artists.

Karen Williams
I enjoy painting using pastels, acrylics and mixed medium. I put pen to paper in many ways. I work with hook and twine to make soft sculptures resembling natural forms.
My passion is to use my artistic skills and years of experience in art and craft to help people connect to each other and to their own creativity. Therefore I open my studio at North Avoca for self-directed lessons, and facilitate creative cluster groups.
