Members’ Isolation Challenges

It’s now official.  We are all Artists in Residence.

Many of us are over the age of 65.  Many are going to be self-isolating over the coming weeks and months.

Art can help make that isolation time less stressful and less tedious. Drawing and painting (regardless of your skill level) is a very effective form of meditation – while you have that brush or pencil in your hand, your brain and body are getting a much-needed break from the looping thoughts of worry.

We can create and share, and relish in one another’s art from the remote safety of our homes.

There is no time limit.  Use any medium, any size, canvas or paper.  You can use a sketch book or the back of a Coles’ receipt, anything you have in the house.

Keep all your Challenges and we will have a special show of your artworks at one of our meetings once we can all get together again.

Challenge 1: draw or paint what you can see from a window in your house. Real or imaginary. A garden scene, a street scene, a rose, clouds, a wall, anything.
Challenge 2 : draw or paint anything using one colour only: such as blue.

Challenge 3: Create a piece of artwork using other than art brushes or pens/pencils. Bathrooms and kitchens are good places to check for implements or maybe out in the garden? Have some textural fun!
Challenge 4: Create a still life or flower study using only black, white and one colour, including any of the tints and tones you can mix from them.

Challenge 5: A room/corner in your home
Challenge 6: Your breakfast

Challenge 5: from Carol Avery
View ‘in and out of my garden’. An art tutor from Katoomba (David Wardman) made a suggestion to take photos in your garden, choose various perspectives to put together for a series. Great way to encourage seeing the little things in life that surround us.
Challenge 6: from Jen Charlton
To boldly go where no Artist has gone before.

Challenge 7: from Rose Bickley
Sketch draw paint something from your daily walk e.g. letterboxes in your street.
Challenge 8: Night Time
